Long ago, many people would climb that tall mountain to pray for the health of their families.

Japan is home to many shrines, and some of them have small hills that contain soil from Mount Fuji or enshrine the same deity as Mount Fuji.

People believe that even if they cannot climb the real Mount Fuji, climbing one of these small hills brings the same blessings as climbing the mountain itself.

There is actually one of these little “Mount Fujis” near my home, and it is only open for climbing on a single day in July!

It will be my first time, so I’m thinking of giving it a try.
